OBT WEEKLY WORD - 1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
THE VERSE
1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
CONTEXT
Paul is writing to the church in Corinth about Christian freedom and how believers should use it.
In this section, he addresses questions surrounding food, conscience, and the good of others.
The issue is greater than simply determining what is permitted.
Paul directs every decision toward the glory of God.
WHAT IT MEANS
“Whether you eat or drink” points to ordinary parts of daily life.
“Whatever you do” extends this principle to every area of life.
To do everything for God’s glory means living in a way that honors and reflects Him.
Nothing is too ordinary to be brought under God’s authority.
WHAT IT DOES NOT MEAN
This does not mean our desires become right simply because we attach God’s name to them.
Christian freedom is not permission to live however we want.
Paul considers both the glory of God and the good of others.
Our freedom should never become an excuse for selfishness.
WHAT THIS CALLS US TO
Every area of life belongs under God’s authority.
Our work, relationships, habits, and decisions should reflect that.
Instead of asking only, “Can I do this?” we should also ask, “Does this honor God?”
His glory, not our own, should shape the way we live.

REFLECTION
Are your everyday decisions shaped by a desire to glorify God?
Where might your own desires be taking priority over His honor?
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to live for Your glory in every area of my life.
Shape my decisions, habits, relationships, and work so that they honor You.
Keep me from using freedom selfishly or seeking recognition for myself.
Help me to remember that everything I do belongs under Your authority.
