CONTEXT
Jesus is speaking near the end of the book of Revelation.
These are part of His final recorded words in Scripture.
He is declaring the certainty of His return and the reality of judgment.
This serves as a closing call to take His words seriously.
WHAT IT MEANS
“I am coming quickly” points to the certainty of His return.
“My reward is with Me” shows that He comes as judge.
Each person is repaid according to their work.
Works reveal the reality of a person’s faith.
WHAT IT DOES NOT MEAN
This does not mean salvation is earned by works.
Scripture teaches that salvation is by grace through faith.
Works do not secure acceptance with God.
They reveal whether faith is genuine.
WHAT THIS CALLS US TO
The return of Christ is certain.
This calls for a life that is ready, not passive.
What you live for now matters.
