OBT WEEKLY VERSE - 1 PETER 1:18–19

THE VERSE

1 PETER 1:18–19

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

CONTEXT

Peter is writing to believers about living in holiness and reverence before God.

He reminds them of the cost of their redemption.

Their salvation was not secured through earthly value or tradition.

It came through Christ alone.

WHAT IT MEANS

“It was not with perishable things such as silver or gold” shows that sin could not be removed through earthly wealth or human value.

“But with the precious blood of Christ” points to His sacrificial death.

Calling Jesus “a lamb without blemish or defect” connects Him to the spotless sacrificial lambs of the Old Testament.

Christ is the perfect and final sacrifice for sin.

WHAT IT DOES NOT MEAN

This does not mean salvation can be earned or purchased.

No amount of morality, effort, or success can redeem a person.

Forgiveness is not achieved through human worth.

Redemption is received through Christ alone.

WHAT THIS CALLS US TO

Your salvation came at a cost.

You were not redeemed to continue living for yourself.

The response to grace is obedience and surrender.

A life purchased by Christ should now belong to Him.

REFLECTION

What are you trusting in besides Christ?

Are you living like someone redeemed by His blood?

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for redeeming me through the blood of Christ.

Help me to stop trusting in temporary things.

Teach me to live as someone who belongs to You.

Align my life with Your will and not my own.
